Jonwayne - Out of Sight

Following a lengthy self-imposed hiatus from music due to his struggles with alcoholism, LA producer and rapper Jonwayne drops the second edition to the Rap Album series, the follow to his Stones Throw release back in 2013.
The 12-track project is a dairy through his battles, which he addressed in an open letter early this year.   Let’s start with what’s good: He doesn’t look like a rapper, but he spits fire. He’s sober, after alcoholism and anxiety caused him to be dropped by Stones Throw. And he’s got the appropriately overblown rap ego, in an interlude where someone actually recognizes him at a club and he gets pissed because he just wants to be left alone. Hip hop means being an asshole to your fans, amiright?
This is easily one of the most interesting rap albums of the year so far. Terrific lyrics, DIY production—this is what indie rap is about.
